Dionisia Salas is a Canberra based artist working predominantly in the fields of printmaking and painting. Salas’ work contains repeated marks and pattern explored through painting, silkscreen printing, burning techniques into paper surfaces, and collage. She has been experimenting with how formal investigations in abstract mark, colour, pattern and composition can result in the artwork being a document of its own making.
Dionisia Salas graduated from the painting department of the ANU School of Art in 2007. She has since lived and practiced in Canberra, Melbourne and Berlin. In 2017 Salas was the recipient of an Arts ACT project grant and that year participated in a residency at The Art Vault, Mildura. She has taken part in residencies at Megalo Print Studio, the inaugural Glint residency with Canberra Glassworks and Megalo, and at Baso studio in Berlin. Group exhibitions include ‘Focus on Abstraction’ (2019) Pavillion am Milchhof, Berlin, ‘The Picture Show’ (2019), Tributary Projects, Canberra, ‘Painting amongst other things’ (2018) ANU SOAD Gallery, Canberra, ‘Emerging from Canberra’ (2017) Watters Gallery, Sydney, ‘Here and Now’ (2015) Nuttall Kibel Nguyen, Melbourne, and ‘The Presence of the Past in the Future’ (2014) Stedefreund, Berlin.
